Carteret Fire Department Events |
-
Open House: Each October during Fire Prevention Month, the
Carteret Fire Department hosts it's annual open house. Residents are
encouraged to visit the firehouse to learn about fire safety.
Visitors are given first hand experience with fire extinguishers and
even put out a "REAL Kitchen Fire." In addition, fire hoses are set
up to allow residents to experience what it's like to use a real
fire house like the firefighters do. Tables with equipment and items
from fires are on display. Here residents can see and touch the
equipment a firefighter uses and also see the causes and effects of
fires, which occurred here in our community. Children are allowed to
see what it is like to wear a firefighter's turnout gear. Rides in
the air are given on Truck 5. Here you will see what it's like to go
up in the air as we do. A free raffle takes place throughout the
day. Thanks to our many sponsors, many residents win smoke
detectors, CO (Carbon Monoxide) detectors, fire extinguishers, and
many other great prizes. Sparky the Fire Dog, a favorite among the
children, visits the firehouse throughout the day and loves to take
pictures with the children.
-
Scholarship: Each year during the annual scholarship ceremony
at the Carteret High School, the fire department FMBA Local 67
selects a candidate from a list of distinguished Seniors. It is the
hope of the department that with this scholarship, their continued
education will be a success.
-
Poster Contest/Firehouse Tours: Each year during the Fire
Prevention Month, the Bureau of Fire Prevention and career fire
fighters spend many hours visiting the younger children and winners
are awarded prizes. In addition, the first place winners are given a
ride to school on a fire truck. Also during this time, fire house
tours are given for the school children so they can see our fire
trucks and equipment up close.
